#Repost @octaviaspencer with @get_repost ・・・ For the past week people have asked me what they should be reading or watching to educate themselves. Remember, I told you this was your awakening? That it would be uncomfortable? Well, when I was a young girl, my mom made my siblings and I watch this PBS series. It’s not a glossy Hollywood movie. It’s raw. Real. A true account of the Civil Rights Movement. This was my awakening at age 10 I think. It’s the first uprising that was able to be chronicled on film. When we were in prep to do THE HELP, I suggested to Tate that all the cast watch it. In fact, I watch it in its entirety every time I have to do a period piece. This is the only recommendation I’m making for ALL people to watch and educate yourselves. This isn’t entertainment: it’s black life in the 60s in black and white, and red. A lot of bloodshed. After viewing, hopefully you will understand our frustration with social apathy, our lack of trust, and why we are so passionate about our #vote! Why the hell we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. #FreedomIsRinging #BLM #PBS #EyesOnThePrize #amplifymelanatedvoices https://www.instagram.com/p/CBJGsdhgJzF/?igshid=1vp7j6yaedn2x
