Just submitted my first sample for a potential gig and I'm riding that sweet, sweet mix of excitement and terror.
Will they love it? Will they hate it? Will they ghost me faster than my last Tinder date? Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion!
But can we talk about the REAL job of freelancing? It's not the writing or the editing or whatever your craft is. No, no. It's becoming a part-time detective, full-time cynic, and occasional comedian as you wade through the sea of "opportunities" that flood your inbox.
This week's highlights include:
• A job offer that promised "exposure" and a "sense of pride and accomplishment". - Sorry, my love, but I can't pay my tuition with exposure bucks.
• An "urgent" request to write 10,000 words about the "Gothic Era". For $5. Completing disregarding my rates. Oh, and wait. They needed my "email" to be able to complete the request, or so the "website" was asking them. Ah. Funny. I'll pass, thanks.
• A totally legit company that just needs my bank details to send me my advance.
At this point, I'm considering starting a side hustle as a scam consultant. I'll change my name on Linkedin to Freelancer Holmes. First consultation free, because unlike these scammers, I have a heart.
So, here's to all my fellow freelancers out there, navigating this Wild West of work. May your samples be selected, your clients be genuine, and your PayPal account remain unhacked. 🍻
This was the most productive day I've had in a while. Got a lot of things done and feeling extra organized.
I'm heading to my parents' tomorrow to stay there for a few days so I'm trying to get a lot of things done as I want as little work to do there as possible.
After raising two kids and being the moderator of two major parenting boards over the course of about 8 years, you'd think I'd be able to just crap out 2300 words about infant sleep.
Instead I'm at THEY DON'T SLEEP FUCK YOU
which is not matching the brand statement.

Free quote and estimate on repairing our tv, and now we’re on the hook for $126 because they repaired it before they okayed it with us.
Dear Clients, please to be paying for my work now, thanks. Love, Your Freelancer
