Too Blog or not too Blog?
I'm not gonna start off lying too you, I don't even like shakespeare. I've always thought it was kind of boring, but I have to admit; too be or not too be is very brilliant. It is a question that you can ask yourself in any situation and if you take time to answer will find clarity in your task. So here I am; a writer, asking myself how I can become a better writer, and for some reason BLOGGING always comes up.
I started my tumblr account back in September when I got back from Puerto Rico after getting married to my beautiful wife. My intention then was to began blogging and sharing my experiences with the world, but my old ways crept back in and made me stall on writing blogs until I eventually forgot about it altogether.
I was once told to fix a problem you have to first figure out where the root of the problem lies, so I have always applied that to my life. When it comes to blogging the first problems I have always had are: Most blogs seem to come from a negative place from the writer, whether they are talking about somebody or something in a negative light I just could never follow because I'm not into gossip magazines. Another issue was that it doesn't feel like I have enough clarity in my statements because something as simple as a blog for me can literally be written in a few minutes, as a writer I always want to give anybody who is nice enough to read these words from my mind all of the due diligence I possess, I never want to throw out incomplete thoughts. So a few minutes of writing doesn't feel like clarity to me. And last, I would rather spend my mental energy writing a script or a novel, you know something that can pay me real dollars (lol).
Now that I have found the root of my issues, it is time for me to address them with a logical truth and then to weight the pros and cons so that I can either find a solution to the issue, or be able to move on from it for good.
Problem #1 - Most blogs are negative
False. Most blogs that I was reading were false, that is the truth. After asking myself that question than going to look for evidence that supported this theory I actually went out and found some very inspiring blogs. From people teaching how to lose weight to how to use your time more wisely and I have found it very helpful.
Problem #2 - Not enough clarity in my statements
The difference from me writing a script or a novel is that I am writing them from different character perspectives. Meaning I get the chance to be detached from the statement itself and get to sneak in my messages without having to fully back any of them by blaming them on the characters and their motivations. With a blog there is no hiding. I have to stand behind my initial ideas, whatever they are. To tell you the truth this part intrigues me. When I was 23 and first started taking writing seriously I may have been terrified of this, would have thought I needed more life and writing experience. But nine years later I feel like I am more than ready to tackle this. I get to test my writing skills by making points faster and being wiser I get the opportunity to explore my thoughts and hopefully spark conversation with others to find out things that can make me even more wise. At 32, I am quicker to be wrong, now I know that the more I don't know the more I get to learn, and now I am okay with it.
Problem #3 - Rather write things to make money
I am sure there are bloggers that make money I dream of making, but this isn't why I would choose to do this. I would choose to blog because it would actually strengthen my ability to write scripts and novels. By exploring these topics that float through my mind, it will make my mind clearer. By writing blogs regularly it will provide me with exercises that will create even better habits for myself. Blogs would force me to constantly question my own brain, my own habits, my own morals.
Verdict
If you can't tell from my answers to problem #3 you don't know me yet, and if you keep reading my future blogs you soon will, but the real reason I write is to expand my knowledge. Overtime I have to write a word out of my brain I feel like I am closer to God. Anybody can just say stuff, but to write and to write clear is greatness. Easily one of the hardest things for anybody to ever do.
Solution
My solution for this particular problem is kind of easy, it is simply to write. By identifying the fact that blogging would make me a greater writer which would push me closer to my goals I now see the importance that it can play in my life. The only thing I can do now is research ways to become a more efficient, successful, and prolific blogger.
Stay tuned. This will be a fun ride.
