Why I Will Love Living in Freeport
It's a 10 minute drive to my job.
It's a 10 minute drive to Grad School.
There is a Boston Market, a 7-11, a legit butcher, a beer distributor, a liquor store, a pharmacy, a hair salon, a card store (because I am too fucking lazy to get in my car and drive to CVS), a Carvel, a Chinese food place and a bagel shop, all within WALKING DISTANCE.
The Nautical Mile is a mere four blocks away. Not that we really have the dough to spend on expensive seafood and lackluster booze, but it's there if we want it!
Oh but wait Jeremy's Ale House is on the Nautical Mile and it has $16 Coors Light Beer Towers and the BEST fucking seafood in the world! Sweet.
Tom's landlord has a boat. "Lots of people have boats" you say. But not lots of 25 year-olds have WATERFRONT PROPERTY.
Gorgeous patio. Huge lawn. Fire pit.
Niles Crane, the resident water fowl, likes to slurp down minows in the canal while I relax on a deck chair, reading a book and sipping tea.
You don't fuck with Niles Crane.
The numerous shopping centers of Merrick are 5 minutes away by car. This includes a Gap, an American Eagle, and a Home Goods. I enjoy window shopping at all three venues.
TRADER JOES + FIVE GUYS BURGERS AND FRIES + SELF-SERVE FRO YO = FIVE. MINUTE. FUCKING. DRIVE.
Home Depot and Stop n Shop? Yeah they are mad close by.
I am convinced that Freeport is 15 minutes from anywhere in Nassau County. Well, maybe not ANYwhere, but the most important of places. This is thanks largely in part to the Meadowbrook Parkway being around the corner.
Apparently, the only improv class on Long Island is held at a Unitarian church three blocks away.
There are many yoga, pilates and dance studio options on Atlantic Ave - too many options - to choose from.
Wanna go drinking in RVC? So totally not a problem.
I love the nursery and garden center that spans an entire block! SECRET GARDEN!
BJs Wholesale Club is oh so close. Great gas prices and bulk food for all!
There is a Bank of America next to a McDonalds on Merrick Road, right off of Guy Lombardo. Can you say, orgy?
Freeport Station may look sketchy, but it's actually pretty legit. Also a five minute drive, it's got plenty of waiting rooms for cold weather, a magazine/snack stand, AND since it also happens to be a major MTA bus hub, trains run pretty frequently there. It is also on the express line for Babylon. You can't lose!
$5 DOMINICAN FOOD HELLS TO THE YEAH.
The beach is close. I guess. I don't even like the beach.
IMPERIAL DINER IS THE GREATEST DINER IN THE WORLD AND IT IS IN MY NEW TOWN.
I win.
MY NEW HOME!
