A desert in Maine? The concept is novel enough that these 20 acres of glacial sand dunes in a pine forest have been a tourist attraction for over a century. But it wasn’t until this year, The Desert of Maine became a modern-day wonderland of outdoor adventure and a glamper’s paradise with their new Ekodomes. So fun and kid-friendly, we had to invite Mike’s high school BFF, his family of 5, and our local Maine buddies. Camping like they’d never seen before, our architectural @Ekodome had 14-foot ceilings, a luxe living space, and wrap-around windows to take in the forest. The kids burst into their new hideaway, made snow angels on the bed, climbed the loft ladder, and plotted their stargazing slumber party. They were so excited and they hadn’t even experienced the amusement side of @DesertOfMaine! With a scavenger hunt map in hand, we explored the 10,000-year-old dunes and learned about this unique landscape through secret sandboxes, forest slides, fossil digs, story labyrinths, and an all-star mini golf course with nonstop surprise and delight. As the sun set over the glampground, the couples had cocktails by the creek, while the fam got the cookout rolling. Staying in such a unique setting, cooking over the fire, and just being silly with long-lost friends, made it seem like no time had passed, and the fun would never end.
