Over the last week or so I have been getting this horrible feeling right in the pit of my stomach. A feeling that lies somewhere between disgust and bewilderment, with a healthy dose of anger thrown in for good measure. The reasoning behind this feeling?

The fact that Muslims pray on the street is being widely contested because it "threatens France's secular values". It's strange that France wants all of the Muslims to move into an armory because apparently that doesn't signify France's secular values whatsoever. Basically little old France is so very insecure about its "secular values" that any open display of religion threatens its very existence! If you don't like it, well then just emigrate out of there because ideally a completely secular country would exist of roughly NO ONE. God (see: France) forbid that anyone think otherwise because who needs freedom when you can have "secular values"?

It isn't degrading for women. It's liberating! Amazing debate between Hiba and Mona. Hiba kills it! 

France's law against women wearing a burqan/niqab is blowing my mind. We're looping back into a circle instead of steering in a forward direction. It's sad that racism/prejudices are still so alive in the 21st century. Banning women to wear something that they choose to and to them is religious is just so disappointing.

I can't believe that people are so ignorant into thinking that women who wear this are symbolizing degradation or even violence. I an article, from the USA Today, "a student from of the public affairs at the Paris Institute of Political Studies, said he supports the law. He said the coverings are not an obligation under Muslim law but a belief of the Wahhabists in Saudi Arabia which is the sect Osama bin Laden adheres to.  He said people who wear the full veils are the most radical kind of Muslims, "so it's good to remind that we live in a republic."
