Hey folks,
I did a reading of one of my favorite poems and I think it may reach a good audience here. Sometimes we have to search far and wide for really good art from an atheistic perspective and this poem is a wonderful example of that.
This is The Prophecy of St. Oran by Mathilde Blind. She was an 19th century atheist and an early feminist. This poem greatly expands the famous story of St. Oran (also called St. Otteran) who was supposedly buried beneath a church and rose from the dead to declare that the afterlife was much different than his Christian brothers thought.
It's a beautiful story about the limits of faith, the blindness of a colonizing force, and the nature of love and humanity itself. I think I do an okay job reading it, it took a long time and many takes to get each section just right. Please give it a listen and enjoy!
