French Flaps on a Soft Cover Book | Star Print Brokers

French Flaps are the extension of the front cover and / or the back cover of a soft cover book. The French flap style is also called a gatefold.

Quite interesting. I was thinking before that I’d just have the gatefold on the front part of the cover but when I saw Hannah she said that add it to the back cover as well otherwise it will look strange. It says here that you can use it on 1 or both. Says that you can leave them blank or put a simple logo on there, could put my bee on the back? This could be quite cute for the child to see the bee one last time at the end of the book and can also use it to mark their spot in the book, however obviously it’s a very short book so probably wouldn’t need to use this..

This paperback copy of the Lord of the Flies has French flaps (as shown) and deckled pages giving it a deluxe appearance. I wish more paperbacks had French flaps to help prevent fraying and bumping of fragile paper corners and allowing them to remain in presentable shape after a reading. If that were the case, I’d definitely buy more paperbacks.
