INKS for last week’s @failurebandig poster at @promowestlive #NewportMusicHall With @swervedriverofficial . Prints are available FROM THE BAND and from me. BIG THANKS to Tim Doyle and @nakatomi_inc for the opportunity to do a poster for one of those bands I never thought I’d get the chance to do a poster for. Hopefully I’ll get to do more #nudgenudgewinkwink . Normally I ink everything with a #winsornewton series 7 brush. But for this I had to bust out a #pittpen for all of the hardware. If I tried to ink it with a brush I’d lose my mind. I also employed a sexy #frenchcurve to keep it all sexy and neurotic. . After inking everything I scan it at 600 dpi greyscale. That way I can mess with Levels in case the density of the ink wasn’t dark enough. That will happen when I thin out the ink to make it flow better for feathering. Bored yet? So yeah - Levels. I can darken the blacks and lighten the whites with a bit more control. I scan it at 600dpi because the final print will be 18x24. I don’t want the lineart to look pixelated. Scan it at a high res allows you to upscale the art. Then i save it as a bitmap tiff and drop it in Illustrator to add type and color. . Big inspiration behind this piece was #ghostintheshell and #FAILURE’s latest album #inthefutureyourbodywillbethefurthestthingfromyourmind. It’s like if #WilliamSBurroughs and #StanleyKubrick collaborated on an album while watching #Interstellar At least that’s what I got from it. . HEY!
