Cathédrale Saint-Joseph part 2. The cathedral, dedicated to Saint Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary, was built between 1887 and 1897 as the seat of the Vicar Apostolic of Nouvelle-Calédonie (created in 1847) with convict labour to plans by a former prisoner, a certain Labulle. It was blessed on 26 October 1890 by Père Xavier Montrouzier, almoner of the hospital, opened on the following All Saints Day, and consecrated in 1893 by the Vicar Apostolic of Fiji, Monseigneur Julien Vidal,before the façade and the bell towers were completely finished. In 1774, James Cook thought the island’s rugged hills resembled those of his native Scotland. Hence he christened the island New Caledonia. The island and its outlying groups became a French colony in 1854 and an overseas department of France in 1956. Could this be Vanilla Orchids?

Cilaos is a town on the French Island of Reunion. It was fascinating walking through the Sunday markets at Cilaos. There was a bit of everything - clothing, straw hats, woven baskets, fresh produce, herbs and spices, delicatessen as well as live poultry.

I came across these nicely bundled packets that look like tree roots. I couldn't tell what they were and the vendor at the market told me they were vanilla. It was interesting to see as I have not seen vanilla in this shape before.

It could be vanilla orchids. Have you seen vanilla orchids before and does this picture fit the description?
