Hey guys. How's it going? It's whisky sample time for this Whisky Wednesday 😉. . I received this sample from my buddy @whiskyhebdo when we met in Paris🗼last month and we exchanged samples, of course 😄 So we have here a French 🇫🇷malt spirit from the Guillon distillery, which has been aged for five years. This particular expression enjoys a finishing period in Sauternes wine casks, imparting a hearty helping of sweetness to the spirit. . Here is my review:. . Nose: Sweet vanilla, Sauternes wine, a bit floral, maybe some pears. . Palate: A bit disappointing, the Suternes influence is there but very faded, some vanilla sweetness again, spices and maybe some citrus zest. I was expecting a bit more umph from 43% ABV. . Finish: Rather short, dry, a bit woody and spicy. . Now this being only aged for about 5 years, it’s a young whisky and not complex. The nose is promising, but then on the palate it's not doing it for me, it's faded and it loses a lot of those Sauternes wine notes I was expecting and I was kind of getting on the nose. The finish is a bit more faded than the palate, but that’s kind of expected because of this being a young whisky. All in all it is an easy sipper, not too complex and easy to drink. .
