Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo – Slower Start, Bloody Finish
Author: Adam CesarePublisher: HarperTeenBuy Now: Amazon • Barnes & Noble • Bookshop.org (supports indie bookstores) I’ve been all-in with this series since book one, so I went into Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo with high expectations. While I liked it, this one didn’t quite hit as hard for me as the first two. The pacing felt slower early on, and I found myself waiting for the…
Just read Clown in a Cornfield!
Sigh. And as always, it's always YEARS after it first came out. Which seems to be a running theme for me :(
But yes, I finished the book today! I know I am way, waaaay outside the age range I guess the author intended? But honestly, I just find it so easier to have a nice snappy book like this, which doesn't intimidate me by looking like the Yellow Pages or something.
And of course, I'm a sucker for horror, so the whole killer clown thing really caught my attention!
I initially thought a lot of the characters seemed mean and two-faced, but what I really liked was that as the situation got more intense, they moved past that and we saw their true selves and how heroic they could be. And it goes without saying that Frendo is a GREAT horror villain! Not to spoil the story, but I love how rather than a singular figure like Michael or Jason, Frendo is almost a symbol that others can use for their own ends. There's something very insidious about that, which makes him harder to defeat, because he's a concept. Also, Quinn's Dad is a total sweetheart. I found their relationship very touching. As a son who has spent his whole life caring for a sick parent, I grew to sympathise with Quinn wanting to look after her Dad because of how fragile he was. All in all a great story! I am curious to read the next book, and of course, see the movie! I wonder how it stacks up to the novel?
corn in a clownfield btw. if you even care. if you were even wondering 😒
