Hey! So I've been trying to get into Great Comet for a while now. I LOVED Prologue and was so ready to love the whole thing but I just can't seem to make it past The Opera before getting kind of overwhelmed with how strange & often unpleasant the music is. Do you have a favorite song/songs that I could maybe start with? (I'd love to see it, b/c I'm sure I'd have a great time WATCHING the performance but I can't afford it. I see how much people OL love it, so I thought I'd try one more time.)

The Opera is peak weird in this musical. It doesn’t get as weird as that. My recommendations for great songs would probably be: Dust and Ashes, Charming, Sonya and Natasha, Sonya Alone, Pierre and Natasha. 

I completely understand feeling this way, btw: I also didn’t make it past The Opera the first 4/5 times I listened. It doesn’t help to not have the visuals to understand what’s going on there (=> Natasha is at the opera watching the weirdest play ever and thinks it’s super weird). I pushed through it and I find it a very rewarding musical to re-listen over and over. There is so much here.

I'm so effing sick of that article. Like, nobody has to like the show, I'm not gonna tell anyone what their taste has to be. But like... people are understandably getting turned off to the show based on these lies which is annoying. Like, I have my fair share of criticisms with DEH, but they're all based on actual shortcomings and I understand that the things that rub me the wrong way aren't universal. (The way it felt like the people in the theater w/ us were using it as grief porn for ex.)

yes thank you!! whoever wrote that article & everyone who replied bashing deh is obviously uneducated on the whole point of deh and are overlooking every possible part of it that is beautifully and amazingly portrayed. you don’t have to like the show, but at least have respect for people that do and recognize it for its positive and negative aspects. thank you for being so mature!

Wicked: Least favourite musical in life haha

Into the Woods: No One Is Alone, probably the Witch I think. Or Cinderella.

Ragtime: Never seen!

One of those great little horror movies that’s talking about horror movies, but without being super cutesy about it or like “see we referenced a thing did you see it, did you catch the joke, we’re so clever.”

I really want it to get a sequel but I feel like we might never see that happen sadly.
