"Ah, not unless you bronze ‘em!" Dain gave a broad grin as he shoved the flowers into Frerin’s arms.

Thorin's gaze flickered to his younger brother's, the two were apparently listening to the imparted wisdom of their father, who though Thorin respected him greatly, had long since finished imparting valuable advice and had reverted to a subject on a completely unrelated note, as happened when Thrain was given free roam with his speech. The slightest hint of a grin twisted the eldest's lips, "Yes father, thank you... though I believe the King had need of you?" He reminded, prompting his father to agree and bustle from the room in a flurry of self-importance. Once the other was from the room Thorin's eyes flickered back to Frerin."Do not follow my example, I would have allowed him to go on if it were not already so late in the evening." He quickly said.
“I had the perfect crime lined up.”

( She snorted, reaching over to run the oven off. Leaning on the counter, she mentally went through how much she had in the bank. )
"What did you do?"
Frerin smiled, that’s how he recognized his cousin. So he reached out and patted Dain on his shoulder, though he wasn’t sure how much Dain felt. "That’s how I know you."
"The bastard took too much from us both." Azog. The bastard had not only killed his father, Nain, but Frerin's own grandfather. King Thror. "I'll lop off his wretched head in the next battle. I promise this." He looked to Frerin and clasps the other's shoulder. "All those buggers will see what happens when you take on the sons of Durin."

Several hours ago Strider had been on horse back galloping through the forest and taking in the sights and the sounds. Not with the new eyes of a babe of course but with the skill that came with experience and age, looking not to enjoy the green and the gold and the auburn left from Autumn but to keep an eye out. In his travels he had come across a group of travelers, or what was left of them. The wounds had said animal, the tracks had said human and Strider had been hunting the tracks when he'd been struck. From the wound, Strider could gauge it was an axe but from the shadows he saw, he had been severely outnumbered and had taken the chance to run and return later.
Now he was in the river, leather and breeches were drying on a rock nearby as he settled in the water with his horse tied up by the bough of a tree. The axe has struck deep -- not something he hadn't dealt with before -- slicing through skin and muscle and soaked blood into his leggings until they had changed colour. Occasionally the stream would shift in a wave and wash up over the rocks, taking some of the blood with it. With the thread between his teeth, Strider had taken his small medical pouch and set about sewing the wound back together, only pausing when the water would rise and clean away the blood that had spilt, then taking the few moments afterwards to resume tugging the thread through the flesh.
