The fever is broken. A fine mist took hold of the blue-gray air, a sweat to cool the cracked and parched ground. It left the eaves to weep in quiet relief. Their tears fall in the stillness left by exhausted birds and the gentle sway of stately conifers. The trees nod their boughs, finally able to rest in a shade not of their making.
