▌ ▲▐ ───── Trees of pine and elm passed by the window as the automated car drove along the sparsely populated backroad towards Hawkins. It was a dreary day, the sky grey with overcast that loomed overhead and threatened to blanket the little Indiana town in pouring rain. Curious hazelnut eyes stared TRANSFIXED at the change of scenery, far different from the sprawling metropolis of Detroit. New and strange to the one who viewed it, ever more so as woodlands broke and gave way to the little town nestled deep in the countryside.
Yellow light spun at his temple, signifying the passenger was processing this new information.
There was something decidedly organic about this place, something unfamiliar. A town of quiet streets and independent shops. A movie theater only a stone's throw away from a grocer, small houses dressed with white wooden shingles and picket fences. People coming and going in little groups, alone, off to perform mundane tasks without a care in the world. School children laughing and chattering, adults running errands, minding the little Mom & Pop shops which made up the industry of Hawkins.
So this was what a small town was like. The passenger found himself smiling faintly with intrigue.
The car soon slowed as it reached it’s GPS determined destination; a little hotel not far from the main street. It wasn’t far from the police station, the location from which it came. The car stopped not far from the entrance of the hotel’s office and the passenger stepped out. A tall, slender brunette of youthfully handsome visage. His appearance was neat and inviting, attire a mix of relaxed and professional. His jacket was run through with LEDs not unlike the one centered in his right temple. The word ANDROID was marked across the height of his back.
The CyberLife creation sent by the DPD in response to the recent missing persons cases and the mysterious goings on at the National Laboratory. His name was Connor.
The android decided to go for a walk after checking into the hotel, eager to explore the town. This trip, admittedly, was as much a mission priority as much as it was a means of discovery. A chance to see things he hadn’t before, learn more about the world he had barely existed in for more than a year. This was the first real time Connor had been away from Detroit and he was grateful for the opportunity. It was just too bad his partner was unable to join.
Connor had visited the police station early that morning. There he met the local police chief; a man by the name of Jim Hopper. Hopper reminded him of Hank in so many ways, from his physique to his attitude, and so on. The man had been straightforward, if not a little wary of the naively polite android, but cooperation had been established and information obtained. It gave Connor much to think about, but also a reminder to call his partner.
He chose to do so as he walked, chatting while meandering about town exploring as much as he could manage before the sun set. He ignored the odd looks he was getting every now and then, for he very much must have looked like he was TALKING to himself. Connor remained unbothered, more focused on checking in and discussing what he could of the case with Hank. He enjoyed bouncing ideas off of him, and the Lieutenant always offered his advice.
As he went the android could not help but feel like eyes were on him - a strangely human feeling, one gained from millions of years of evolution. He wasn’t shocked to find he had the same capability, for he had been created by humans. The feeling persisted as he walked into a less populated, more remote area of what could be considered main street, considering it little more than a response to those curiously observing the inhuman being in their midst. Still, he couldn’t shake the intuitive sense that he was being stared at.
