This has been a list heavy posting week but it’s been a long time since the last Friday Finds. This was the first thing I had to do at the end of the term to help me break my fanfiction slump. I’ve ranged out to a few different fandoms with this list, so here’s hoping to breaking that reading slump!
1. Living Between Worlds by alittleinsane963
Pride and Prejudice/Harry Potter crossover, Drama/Romance, < 10k words, WIP, Read it on ff.net
Lizzy is looking forward to starting her sixth year at Hogwarts where she will resume her dueling studies, start the process of becoming an animagus, and take over as Quidditch Captain. She could do without transfers from Beauxbatons, however...
This one’s on here because I love Pride and Prejudice and the premise of the Bennet sisters going to Hogwarts seemed fun. The story’s setting also seems interesting because I’ve not read many stories looking at Hogwarts in the past.
2. Harry Potter and the Scrambled Sorting by TendraelUmbra
Harry Potter, Drama/Humor, < 100k words, WIP, Read it on ff.net or AO3
The houses of Hogwarts are growing stagnant, and a certain sentient Hat is dismayed over this turn of events. It decides to take matters into its own hands, taking advantage of several obscure rules to sort students where the Hat wants them, not where heredity or their own desires want them to be. The result? A mess that gradually pulls the student body into utter chaos.
I saw this story recommended on reddit and the author mentioned that their story was inspired by Stargon1′s A Sorting Like No Other - a story I wished there was more of. I hope it’s as fun as the premise sounds.
3. Fate by TheTrueSpartan
Harry Potter, Adventure/Fantasy, > 1 million words, WIP, Read it on ff.net
When Ron discovers that he can see the future, his entire fate is thrown off of its course. A story about adventure, friendship, growing up, and pushing forward through hardships. This story will get darker as it progresses, just like the original Harry Potter novels. It will cover all Seven Years of Hogwarts, but mostly from Ron's perspective. No Char bashing, no Mary Sues.
Published in 2019, this fanfic seems like a good Ron-centric story to try out. It also plays with Ron being a seer which sounds like a good premise. On the other hand, this story is more than a million words and isn’t complete - so this will most likely be one of my slowest reads.
Avatar: The Last Airbender, Adventure/Family, 757, 722 words, Complete, Read it on ff.net or AO3
Dragon's fire is not so easily extinguished; when Zuko rediscovers a lost firebending technique, shifting flames can shift the world...
I wanted to reach back into the A:TLA fandom just because of how much I enjoyed it in the past - but more so with gen stories. The show already did an amazing story arc for Zuko but I wanted to see how this story would tackle it.
5. The Granger Principle by Starfox5
Harry Potter, Adventure/Drama, < 200k words, WIP, Read it on ff.net
It seemed like a routine assignment for CI5 officers Ron Weasley and Harry Potter: Investigate a physicist who had caught the attention of some unsavoury elements. Little did they know that Dr Hermione Granger would turn out to have more secrets than Ron would have thought possible.
I’ve read Starfox stories before - and they often do a good job on portraying Ron and have interesting premises. Can’t wait to dig into this AU.
6. Tangled Strings and Technicalities by tabbycat
Harry Potter, Adventure/Romance, < 400k words, WIP, Read it on ff.net or AO3
An unlikely series of events causes Sirius Black, Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood to arrive in 1978. The wizarding world is in all-out war. Regulus Black sits poised to take the Dark Mark. Remus Lupin joins the Order. Can they change the fates of the ones they love? Can they save themselves? SB/HG, GW/RL, RAB/OCs.
Y’all know I love reading time-travel stories, and it’s been so long since I read one! It’s an interesting premise just because there’s more than a few time-travellers and they’re not going back to Harry’s first year the way other stories with multiple time-travellers have done.
7. The List by silvercistern
The Hunger Games, Romance/Hurt/Comfort, 33,723 words, Read it on ff.net
"The list that Dr. Aurelius and I had made together was burning a hole in my pocket. A list of triggers. A list of things I should avoid." Peeta comes home. First installment of The Ashes of District Twelve Series.
I’ve enjoyed diving into the Hunger Games fanfiction but had been finding it hard to find non modern-AU stories for the fandom during the term. Now the term is done and I can’t wait to try this story out!
That’s all the stories currently on my To Be Read list. How about you, have you found any fics worth reading this Friday?
