Hi, I'm Amy AKA The Simline.

From the first time I saw Singin' in the Rain as a kid I've been costume obsessed, and The Sims helps me channel that nerdery into CC curation and lookbooks influenced by history, television, movies, current events and all manner of creative inspiration. Because I cover such a broad range of styles I thought I'd gather everything into a pinned master post for ease of navigation.

Probably important for me to say, if it wasn't obvious before, I do my best to never use custom content on my blog that isn't free/open access to everyone. On the rare occasion that I do use a perma paywalled item, the link I share will always be a "liberated" one. If you ever find that a link on one of my posts has been changed over to a paywalled one, please do let me know.

Fuck EA and fuck anyone who stoops to their level. This modern culture of hobby commodification* is gross actually.

*Adding a caveat because I think it's important - I fully support talented creators having the option to make money from their work. In fact, I subscribe to a bunch of their Patreons. What I have an issue with is corporate greed and the soulless debasement these companies are willing to endure just to make a quick, easy buck.

Now that we've wrapped up the 1810s, next on our stop in the Ultimate Decades Timeline series is the 1820s/1830s AKA the Romantic Era. When I tell you I've been longingly waiting for this one! I thought I'd kick proceedings off by revisiting my favourite makeover trio, the Powerpuff Girls. I've previously restyled them as 60s fashion models, a cyberpunk girl gang, a Y2K girl group and a trio of modern pop girlies. And honestly, I really just wanted an excuse to explore all of the excessive finery of the period - masses of lace, bows on every surface and of course, the biggest of bonnets.

As we travel further into the early 19th century, trendy colours became more saturated and vibrant. The evolving Regency fashion and textile industries did exactly what today’s designers do; they rebranded colors to stay in vogue (I'm looking at you, Pantone Colour of the Year). Charming shade names like Deep Rose, Primrose and Chantilly are evidence of the growing Romanticism movement of the time. Be sure to only add one to your mods folder at a time!

I have to give a HUGE thank you to the talented @anachrosims for once again raising the CC bar. When I was working on this lookbook I was asking around my historical simmer friends for recommendations for early 1800s military uniforms and she only went and created one! Absolute legend who helped me finalise today's line up.

While much of menswear was a continuation of styles established in the 1800s, there was a subtle shift in silhouette come the new decade, with the waist dropping and shoulders becoming more padded. Shirts were white with ruffled or pleated fronts, and very high standing collars that skimmed the jaw. By 1815 the frock coat would come into fashion, most likely evolving from the outerwear greatcoat and military uniforms. It would continue to be a staple of menswear for decades to come.

Both breeches and pantaloons were worn during the 1810s, but trousers were well and truly making their mark on the male fashion landscape. They provided a looser, more comfortable fit while still retaining the slim, athletic ideal of the period. CC links under the cut.

After all my recent medieval fantasy lookbooks I wanted to counter balance them with something decidedly more modern, and who doesn't love a good excuse to just play dress up with some pretty clothes? Now that I'm up to the 1810s in my Ultimate Decades Timeline series, this Friday Finds request seemed like the perfect note to round out the decade. While I've styled all the headwear on a modern sim, these turbans and head wraps would work across a variety of decades and eras. The 1920s woman was all about independence and freedom, with a wardrobe that reflected as such. The corseted, constricted silhouette of previous decades was long gone. In its place came the tube shaped drop waist synonymous with 1920s style. While glitz and glamour is often associated with the decade that shepherded in the Jazz Age, women's fashion moved toward the simple, with streamline shapes and hems shorter than they had ever been before. Casual sportswear had long been in fashion for men, but by the twenties it also made its way into women's wardrobes. In fact, one of the most popular style icons of the decade was tennis star Suzanne Lenglen. Outfit details under the cut.

I've never featured Build & Buy content on my blog before, but since we're all about to build a bunch of majestic castles and regal manors, it seemed only fitting to create some heraldic inspired accessories to add the perfect finishing touch. A big belated Happy Birthday to the truly wonderful @surely-sims, who recently celebrated her 30th birthday and released a glorious recreation of Jenna's 13 Going on 30 Versace dress.
