Here's the newest craze in Japan at the moment... Fried Shark!
No, you don't eat it... Fried Shark are collectible plastic toys.
But they're supposed to look like battered and fried whole sharks.
There are five different crispy classifications in the set, from Great White to Hammerhead, as you can see listed in the poster above.
The sixth "secret" version is not a shark at all, but a stingray, which is the one I got.
You buy them through "gatcha gatcha" gumball style machines for 200 yen each.
None of my friends in the Japanese toy business or food business know where these came from, what they're supposed to be, or why they're so popular.
