504, world 954. Finally playing the stocks module! This was really fun because it just wildly exceeded expectations. I’m a fan of 504 for a bunch of reasons, but mainly because it’s just amazing that you can dial up a set of ideas that intrigues you and it’s virtually always good! And evocative in some way! However I admit I had only modest expectations of the stock-trading option, just because 18xx is a very specific game flavor. But this was shockingly good! The choices about how to capitalize your company, how to manage cash flow, and where to invest, are subtle and nuanced. Different modules would, I imagine, have quite different cash management decisions. I had been warned that stocks made the game really long, but we got through in 2.5hr, which was just right. I think the fixed number of turns actually works quite well. Now I’m really interested to try a few other combos - particularly with pick up & deliver, factories (both obviously interesting), and warfare (quirkier!). Speaking of under-appreciated Friese games, this one tops my list 😄. #bgg #boardgamegeek #boardgames #strongholdgames #friedemannfriese #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamenight #j2s #brettspiele https://www.instagram.com/p/B6cdDj8Bt1V/?igshid=4kmirhgo7sga
