Okay.  Since it looks like there’s some drama in the Speakeasy regarding a show with an actor who is playing a Certain Historical Figure we’d all like to treat as pinata…

Said actor sent me a PM after I reblogged his reply to a post.  He doesn’t seem even remotely upset, just genuinely curious and a little amused at the character hate.  He’s excited for his first big role and did a google search and it brought him to our door.

I think his surprise is a bit understandable, because really, they were all pretty awful people, so maybe from his point of view, singling just one of them out as The Worst One is a bit surprising. (I mean, he was the worst.  There is no debate on that.  But none of our boys get off the Your Fav is Problematic list)  For what it’s worth, I sent him a nice reply, just letting him know that there’s a small fandom of history nerds on tumblr, that we have our own inside jokes, etc, and that nobody means anything personal by it at all.  He seems perfectly fine with that.  Tumblr is a strange and weird place for the uninitiated.  I doubt he’ll be trawling tags, but I’m almost certain he won’t take any character hate personally.  (I also may have warned him that tumblr fandom gets weird, so I don’t think he’ll go looking deeper into the gangster history blogs.)  So…I don’t know…no need for a crisis?
