Something I love about Frieren is how much the show embodies the themes it contains. For example, a consistent and not at all subtle theme is appreciating the small transient joys of life, because their meaning and impact extend beyond their short duration, even if it’s not always clear how. It’s a big part of Frieren’s arc.
But you also see the theme exhibited through the flower spell that Flamme loved so much. It was Flamme’s favorite spell so she taught it to Frieren, and, a thousands years later, Frieren showed it to a young Himmel in a moment that inspired him to become a hero and seek her out in his adulthood to defeat the demon king. But that spell was only known by Flamme and so beloved to her because her family taught it to her when she was a kid, for no reason other than to see her smile. That small everyday act of love was, in a way, the impetus to defeating the demon king and bringing in the era of peace a millennium later.
