I never planned on being an old-timey woodworker guy, but now I own a draw knife and a shingle cutting froe. Clearly, there is only one path for me now. I put my new froe knife to the test for the first time with some sides of cedar cast off from a local mill. The shingles I made are not terribly uniform, but if I call them "rustic" then they might sound more impressive.
