For various reasons, it's been quite a while since I've been up to the cabin, but I finally made it back for this gorgeous weekend. I spent nearly the entire time splitting cedar, and now, at long last, the siding on the new addition is done. There's still plenty left to do, but, holy hell, splitting shingles is time consuming, and I am overjoyed that this phase is finally past.

A bold hand-painted floor by James Allan Smith, in black and tan with touches of cream and blue, crisply underlines Gary Crain's summer porch in Southampton. Crain used pure white canvas as a canopy to protect against the elements and at the same time succeeded in softening the feeling underneath.

Just a gorgeous day at the cabin today. I had to do a bunch of post-winter cleanup and maintenance, but I happened upon another bundle of cedar shingles the other day, so I took some time to finally finish the siding on the studio. With a little trim work, the outside is starting to look pretty nice.
