TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE ROAD 96 AU???,
Particularly stuff about our main 6s. Do Ben Lily and Aiden & Taylor and Taylor travel together? If not, why? Whats Ashlyns parents like? TELL ME EVERYTHING!! Will the PD be in this AU?
(Also is this something you made or sonething based of a real life programme? Cause I am hella interested.)
Okay So First off this entire au is based on the game Road 96, and no I don't think the Phantom dimension will be in this au just because I don't really know where it would fit in
Each of the main six have different reasons for leaving home, and for a solid chunk of the au they are all separate on their own treks to the border. These are their reasons in loose order of who sets out first:
Tyler: The twin's Dad, Ethan, died in the attack of '86 when they were around 6. Like in the comic though, Marianna sometimes thinks he's still alive and when she does remember he's dead, she goes into a depressive state. This meant that the twins don't actually know how, when or if (although they are almost completely convinced he's dead) their father died. For years, Tyler and Taylor struggle to keep on their feet while they watch Petria's political situation worsen. It gets to a point where the two decide enough is enough and they need to atleast figure out what happened to Ethan, so maybe then their mom will atleast come back to them enough for life to get to some version of stability or normality. The only issue is, with missing teens being reported every day and them not wanting to risk seeing if the rumours of what happens to those teens when they are found is true, it'd be too risky for both the twins to go. So Tyler sets out to find out what he can. He makes frequent calls home when he can to make sure Taylor knows he's okay-and to make sure she's okay, but after a chaotic week and no chance at finding a working payphone he misses the check-in call. When he eventually does ring home, the voice greeting him is a cop, asking who he is. Both His and Taylor's faces are up there on the Jasmine shows missing teen report the next day. Tyler's priorities then change from finding information to finding his sister.
Aiden: Aiden is one of the characters who in this au takes on the role of a road 96 character, in this case Zoe. Both Aiden's parents are important members of Tyrak's presidential party, with his Dad being the minister of oil. Aiden, like most of the people of Petria who do not fall easy to propaganda, sincerely disagrees with his parents support or Tyrak. He tells his parents he's going on a small adventure (He still has his comic personality of thrill seeking) and they let him go (not really bothering to check). Aiden then sets out on the road with no intention of going back, and ends up helping the black brigades (or whatever name I'm going to call them in this au, the phantoms? The cranes? Idk but they are a rebel group run by maverick) every now and then. He also love spray painting, particularly over posters of Tyrak.
Taylor: When Tyler leaves to find information about their dad, Taylor is left to cover. Meaning for as long as she can she makes excuses for Tyler's absences and sometimes will even impersonate him, taking what shifts she can at his jobs as well as working her own. Not only does she try to make those outside her house believe Tyler's still around, she also tries to convince her own mother. Like in the comic, she uses distractions and little comments like "he'll be back from work soon!" In order to deflect her getting close to figuring it out. Her weekly calls to Tyler are her only source of comfort, she doesn't always know when he's going to call, only that she's sure he always does, they use a code in order for him to let her know the vague area of where he is. But eventually on week passes, and then another with no news from him, and as the TV continues to get more extreme with the build up to election day, Marianna starts to properly see her daughter's distress. She almost snaps back to herself (think right after Tyler's death), she warns Taylor to get out of the country while it's still a possibility, to find Tyler as quickly as she can and head to the border. So she does, with the only direction being the point when she last spoke to her brother
Logan: Logan is another character based on one from road96 (in this case the character of Alex) I said this in his sketch art, but in this au Logan's Dad is Alex, who is a cop. Logan has more of a straightforward reason of setting off on the road, in that he wanted to find information on his biological parents (who died in the attack of '86). Logan is incredibly good with electronics, even building his own laptop, and he uses a radio to communicate with a member of the black brigades (Ryan). He, like Aiden, helps the brigades every now and again.
Ashlyn: Ashlyns reasoning is probably the most straightforward, Mike and Emma are ex-military like in canon, they left completely not long after the attack of '86, after seeing the corruption of their country and the devastation it caused. They give Ashlyn the idea to head to the border in order to escape Petria, and teach her tips and tricks on how to stay safe.
I haven't figured out Ben's yet because I want it to fit right and tie in with his backstory, however while on the road he definitely calls home to hear lily, even though he doesn't say anything she knows it's him, and it helps him to hear her voice. (This is based on a side interaction in the game, where you can call home on a payphone and your little sister will pick up and say she misses you, you don't say anything) If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!!
