I love that you think they are lovable! Because they really are, aren’t they, even if they both have trouble seeing it about themselves - but instantly see it about each other, of course. :D :D 

David has that kind of self-deprecating streak that masquerades as being “realistic” about himself: I’m fine, I’m likable enough, I’m the responsible one, but I’m not anything extraordinary or exciting, someone like him would never normally notice someone like me... Colin, on the other hand, looks at David and all the genuine niceness, versus his own past and scandalous reputation, and can’t imagine ever being *good* enough for someone like that. But then of course they can’t not try to help each other, because that’s the people they are, too. And then they end up completely falling for each other. Because of course they do: they see each other. :-)

And in the sequel they actually get to SAY the I love you! I mean, AFTER the angst and the fire and the oh-god-I-thought-you-were-dead melodrama. :D :D :D
