having a real the bubble i live in moment where a group i’m involved with is doing an event with a*dible and it’s not really a closely knit enough group for me to seriously push back (i don’t have to go or anything) but i did mention i have concerns about doing stuff affiliated with amazon and it was just like. crickets.
just opened an omegaverse fanfiction on the ay oh three and saw a disclaimer that it is "not based on real events." you don't fuckin say.
i just need to say that there's nothing that makes me sadder about the state of the internet than when i go to youtube hoping to find someone's compilation of all the scenes of whatever and instead what i find is the streaming service's compilation of best scenes of whatever. it's so offensive to me. this is cultural appropriation. amazon prime shouldn't be allowed to replace the hard labor of fans uploading the top ten moments of their otp, the most recent of which they recorded by filming the tv with a phone

it is an extremely bad time to need a new job and yet i must say that i desperately need a new job. for so many reasons, not all of which are new, but one that is new is that my boss has gotten deeply into ai and she and many of my other colleagues just use chatgpt for everything all the time and you simply cannot fathom the experience of having your boss, who is not a good writer in any way and regularly sends borderline incomprehensible emails, feeding your work into chatgpt to give you feedback on it. unless it has happened to you, which i imagine it has for some people. anyway i just spent 45 minutes editing chatgpt writing. i am going for a walk and never coming back.

so tonight i went to a speed dating event, which i’ve done before and may well do again, but that’s not what made this event notable. what made this event notable is that the hosts/facilitators simply did not show up at all, and could not be reached by the staff at the venue despite numerous attempts. now this is an event put on by a company that does meeting-people events all around the country, and also that i paid forty eight american dollars to attend, so this is pretty unusual, i would say. but nonetheless it is the situation that i and 16-odd complete strangers found ourselves in. there was a huge thunderstorm here tonight, complete with flash flood watches, and on top of that it’s a monday night so it would be an understatement to say the bar wasn’t crowded. so it mostly just us strangers, and the bartenders, who were extremely nice and on top of the whole thing including confirming very early on that we’d be getting refunds for our forty eight american dollars.
and a couple of enterprising attendees were just like, well if we’re all here we might as well all settle into the reserved area and chat, and they ran a somewhat unstructured but honestly very enjoyable speed dating event just off the cuff. it was pretty small, probably due to the storm, and we obviously didn’t get any of the conversation starters that this company’s events include, and since there weren’t any forms to fill out about who you liked everyone did just have to put on their grown-up underpants and ask people for their numbers before they left, but also it was a honestly a great time. deeply weird. i love how experiencing even a minor inconvenience brings people together as a group. in addition to the guys whose numbers i got i had a delightful conversation about how the idea fruited sour experience is so sour you need to slam a handful of tums when you get home cause it’s giving you acid reflux
