I wrote this song for the movie "Soul Flower Train" as a theme song. (The author of the original work is Robin Nishi, a comic artist. The director is Hiroshi Nishio. It will be released in this year.)
The scene of the story is Osaka and thinking of my home town, I wrote this song. I want Osaka to be more exciting city. I hope many more people get to know Osaka and come to the city.
At our North American tour last year, we went to an all you can eat restaurant. I wrote this song about it. In these years, all you can eat restaurant is getting very popular in Japan. I love it, too. I especially like "Chocolate Fountain" for dessert.
The melody line and sound became British style like Small Faces. I played kazoo pretending like Brian Jones.
The documents shipped from far away country were kept together by a paper clip. I put the paper clip in to a small box. One day I took out it and use it for different documents. I send the documents with a paper clip to another place. Is this paper clip will be reused? I was thinking about that. Life is like a paper clip. Life is a journey. I'm happy if you listen to this song with imagining about the trip of a paper clip.
This song was inspired by Psychedelic Pop music like Strawberry Alarm Clock and Lemon Pipers. Our drummer Emi is singing enthusiastically. She is a suitable character for this song because she likes to wear Bohemian taste clothes. I also like Psychedelic taste items from music to fashion.
I see an old man whenever I go to a subway station. He is always sitting on a bench at a platform. I named him Mr. J at my own discretion and wrote a song about him. It's fun for me to make songs from my daily experiences.
Inspired by a deadhead train, I wrote this song. After the last train, with no interior lights but a head light, it is coming. We arranged this song as a soulful heard rock number. Speaking of train song, "Galaxy Express 999" is famous in Japan. It's performed by '70's Japanese band Godiego. This is an invigorating number but we seasoned this Ghost Train song to crude flavor.
Our bassist Ritsuko is singing this song eagerly. She mentioned about herself that she tend to brings rain but it's always not raining but sunny or just a little cloudy when Shonen Knife play. At Fuji Rock Festival 2011, the day we performed was very rainy. Despite of that, it stopped raining at Shonen Knife's turn on stage and right after our performance, the rain came on. After rainy days, things will get better. Sunshine.
We sometimes have to endure the trails of life but don't give up and keep moving on with fresh mind. I tried to make a pop melody line and have massive backing vocals. I can say we put a lot of backing vocal ensembles all through this album. We hereby declare that we keep on rocking and have eternal progress.
