From Whence
I.
I crawl toward the door in the cellar
Ceiling just above my head, covered in roots
Broken open by my own hands, breaching out
There will be no defeat on this fresh ground.
II.
Winter is the saddest season
I dwell on it, midst the summer breezes
Now it fills me with that Midwestern Huzun
Dare to seek something crumbling around me.
III.
Down the path, covered in lust-red leaves
Passion comes in my years, age is overrated
I glance down at my boots
Sediment of every color covers each surface
IV.
Destination unknown, wandering continues
These are my journal entries, intermittent and few
Reports from my whole life, revived from ice
I am not sad.
where are the dutch people from again?
Grammatical Peeve
I'm not a perfectionist when it comes using to proper grammar, but whenever I hear the words "from whence" uttered next to each other, in that order, I squirm.
Ever since I have taken Latin, I have become a snob over the proper usage of "whence."
When using the word "whence," never say, "from whence." Drop the "from," because "whence" already means "from where." When you say "from whence," you're being redundant. I squealed when I was reading some primary documents from antebellum South in my history class a couple years ago.
Now I sound like a snob, but I'm thinking about it at the moment, and damn, it just gets my goat.
