@frombehindpaleeyes asked:
“Hey, hey, stay with me, ok?" (for Billy Russo) (Angsty starter)
Billy never figured himself for the hero type. He knew what people whispered about him: pretty face, sharp suit, darker edges hidden under the grin.
He was the kind of man you wouldn’t bring home to Mom. But right now? None of that mattered.
Right now, there was blood on his hands that wasn’t his own.
The woman lay sprawled against the cold brick, breaths shallow, her skin too pale under the streetlight. Billy’s pulse kicked up, instincts snapping into place before his head could catch up. He pressed down hard on the wound, jaw tight, forcing the panic down deep where it belonged.
“Hey. Hey. HEY.” His voice came rough, sharper than he meant, so he tried again, softer, coaxing. “Stay with me, ok? Just keep your eyes open. You’re doin’ fine.”
Billy leaned closer, his grip steady even as his mind raced through options, none of them looking that well at that moment in time: tourniquet, transport, call for backup.
No time to think about why he cared.
No time to think about who she even was.
Just time to keep her breathing.
“You don’t get to quit on me,” he muttered, more to himself than her, but he forced the words out anyway. “Not tonight. Not here.”
The city noise carried on around them- sirens, shouting, life moving on like it always did, but for Billy Russo, the world had narrowed to the weight of her slipping life in his hands and the promise he wasn’t sure he’d be able to keep.
“C’mon, sweetheart,” he whispered, voice frayed at the edges. “Stay with me. I’ll get you out of this. You hear me? Just… stay.”
