DesiDollas
If you don't know, now you know.
Let's get to know!
DesiDollas has an amazing story to tell. She is highly admired here at FRTT. We recently reached out to the young "Queen on the rise", (as she states on her site's bio - http://desidollas.com/bio.html - check her out!) for an interview on her well kept curls. Desi was more than kind enough to provide full detail on her lock's secrets.
1. What is your shampoo and conditioner that you currently use right now?
I am in a constant rotation of products but the last wash I used Mixed Chicks Shampoo and my kitchen mixture of Coconut Oil and Honey.
2. How many times per week do you shampoo and condition?
I shampoo one to two times a week, condition just about every other day and deep condition once a week.
3. Any recommendations for deep conditioning?
My go to deep conditioner is either my kitchen mixture of Coconut Oil and Honey or Osmo Intensive Deep Repair Mask. Either one of those are amazing.
4. Do you use any kind of moisturizers If so, what kind?
Moisturizers? Hmmm, not really.
5. During what season would you say your hair is most cooperative?
I think my hair cooperates more during the winter but it also depends on the weather/climate or city.
6. How frequently do you cut your ends?
Guys, I have to admit something, I'm horrible with getting trims! I'm trying to get better with this. My last trim was two months ago.
7. Do you have a styling regimen in the morning?
If it's a day I do not wash, I spritz my hair with a water/conditioner mixture I have and then use Mixed Chicks' Leave-In lightly. I'm not big on using products after washes.
8. How do you manage to keep those curls with blonde hair?
So many people are always amazed that my hair is so curly even after all the dying... which tends to always baffle me. I guess I owe it all to using the right products and deep conditioning. I sacrifice straightening for coloring. I rarely straighten my hair these days and if I do, I try to keep that hairstyle for quite some time. I contribute a lot of my hair's health to natural products as well. I think a lot of people feel like they have to go out and buy products that claim their specifically for curly hair. Why?
9. Have you noticed any changes in your curl texture since being blonde?
When I first went blonde, I was straightening my hair constantly. I even got a Brazilian Blowout... what was I thinking!? Ever since I stopped, all the nonsense and taking care of myself as a "curly girl", my hair has actually gotten curlier since becoming a blonde.
10. Describe the perfect hair day for you?
My perfect hair day is big and bouncy!

11. How long have you been processing your hair with hair dye?
On and off since junior high.
12. Do you apply any heat to your hair?
I apply heat probably every 3 to 4 months just to switch it up.
13. What are your 'go to products' at the moment?
Zerran Moisturizing Shampoo, Zerran Botanum, Zerran Equalizer, Mixed Chicks Shampoo - Conditioner & Leave-In and things I whip up in my kitchen.
14. Any special treatments or hair masks that you use/favor?
I'm obsessed with coconut and honey at the moment. It does absolute wonders for my hair.
15. Does your hair get frizzy? If so, how do you go about taming the frizz?
My hair definitely gets frizzy on second or third day hair. I have a squirt bottle that I mixed water and just a dabble of conditioner. I'll spritz the pieces that have lost shape and let them air dry. I used to use Osmo's Berber Oil... honey, it's godsend!
And last but surely not least,
16. Any advice to women, or men, with tight curls such as yours?
I encourage everyone to reach for the more unconventional products. The natural ones that don't necessarily state they're for curls. Love what you have!
