Applying the thinking and consideration of how people interact with the internet and how they react to advertisement banners online
The 2.4 million ad-blocker extensions made for internet browsers so that users can block out the annoying, intrusive, distracting advertising banners.
How would the internet be better if we pulled away advertising banners that take up a majority of webpages and distract from the real content.
Put Content and the Storytelling first. Companies who put their Content and/or Content Creation first; are the most disruptive online today. This is because they produce pages with high-quality content that has little to zero advertising campaigns on it. Allowing the user to get what they came for.
Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple are leaders in how to adapt the way we approach a market and advertise to them.
The latest trends in how to put content first in website displays is to;
Give the user a choice. To pay a fee for access to zero advertisement and pure content or pay nothing and make use the site with advertisement ensue. Companies like Youtube and online news / media platforms use this as a way to acquire donations from users while providing users with what they want, No advertising campaigns.
Advertise through Storytelling. The Ted Talk by George Nimeh, (above) outlines this very well. Companies like Coca Cola or Red Bull, who use Storytelling to show how their product adds value to customers. They utilise their method as a means to reach a wide audience through all tech devices (mobile, tablet or TV). Storytelling also creates a platform to connect users through sentimental attachments to branding, entertainment of watching the digital visual, and create a sense of experience of the brand as well as value of the product.
I see how a pattern of consumerism has emerged and is changing. Minimalist theories of lifestyle are being adopted into consumer behaviours. You can read the 37 million Google results on reasons why people gravitate towards changing to become a minimalist. It is no secret that a Minimalist prefers to consider their purchases carefully and wants to try their eliminate consumer advertisements that distract them from doing what is important to them.
In this example, online business presence and their ways of advertising are expected to evolve to adapt to consumers expectations. They want less advertisement and more quality content online and at their fingertips. The question for the next 2 years is how will online advertisement companies further adapt and how will the consumer mindset change the way companies advertise, produce content and deliver services.
Will this produce more consideration of the importance of things that matter to us before we make a purchase and appreciation of owning less stuff be translating into the way we are sold our products online? Will this make our experiences online of higher quality rather than unnecessary jargon. Is the Minimalist theory that “Less, is more” transforming the Marketing Strategy of companies?
