CHRIS FRONZAK of ATILLA Is Still Supposedly Not Allowed To Perform In Nevada After 2018 Incident
A fan posted to X in search of a video from 2018’s Aftershock that saw Chris Fronzak apparently “rock” a security guard, asking: “Does anyone remember when Chris from Attila absolutely rocked that security guard at rage fest in Vegas? Cause I want the video if anyone has it… fuck that guy, and Fronz is the realest around for that.”
And as reported in 2018, Chris Fronzak cut their set short at the…

I’ve gone on record many times to say that I don’t like Attila. I still don’t. I think they’re awful. They’re one of the worst bands in metalcore, but are they the worst, though? The answer’s “no,” because I’ve heard worse. I mean, remember The Bunny The Bear? Yeah, they’re a lot worse, but Attila isn’t that bad in comparison. Are Attila good? No, not really, but it’s known how bad they are, so talking about how awful they are just seems like a repetitive and worthless thing to say. I’ve heard one of their albums, and I think it was 2014’s Guilty Pleasure. That’s right, I forgot that I talked about one of their albums about four years ago. Looking over that review, I might be repeating myself a bit throughout this one, even though I’ll be talking about a couple of albums before it, 2011’s Outlawed. I picked this up at FYE recently, just out of curiosity, because I’ve always wanted to listen to their early stuff. Most people know nowadays how bad Attila is, but they didn’t quite get infamous for that until 2013’s About That Life, I believe, so I wanted to talk about their early stuff that most people don’t quite know about. The reason I picked it up is that the album was cheap, there was a sale on used albums, and I was mildly curious. Outlawed came out right when I was really into that kind of music, specifically between 2008 – 2012, so I figured it would be worth listening to, since it fits into that four-year window. I had an idea of what to expect, because it’s Attila. You pretty much have an expectation, regardless of how high or low they are. When I pressed play on the album, I was getting what I expected, including generic metalcore with annoying lyrics and vocalist Chris “Fronze” Fronzak being obnoxious, but I was surprised at the same time. The album wasn’t as obnoxious as I was expecting it to be, and that’s the main issue I’ve had with their work in the last few years. It’s extremely in your face, obnoxious, and annoying. They try too hard to be edgy, cool, and hip, but it doesn’t work all that well.
Outlawed was before they got really obnoxious, because for the most part, this LP is a straightforward and well-done (for what it is, anyway) metalcore album. It’s nothing special, really, but the obnoxiousness of Fronzak is dialed down to a minimum. Don’t get me wrong, it’s there, but it’s not quite as annoying or in your face as later albums. What you’re left with is a half-hour generic metalcore album that does what it does relatively well, but it’s nothing all that interesting, memorable, or great. I feel like people that are into the most generic metalcore, or that just really like breakdowns, will like this record a lot, because that’s all it is. It’s just full of breakdowns. I can honestly look past Fronzak’s lyrics and vocals here, whether it’s because his rapping is really kept to a minimum (they didn’t start rapping more, let alone utilizing more of a nu-metal sound, until the last couple of albums), or the nu-metal sound isn’t heard much at all. Instead there’s a generic metalcore sound that’s “fine,” by all definitions. I can’t say that I’ve really gotten a whole lot out of this album, but at the very least, it’s short. This album’s only a half hour, so it doesn’t spend a lot of time in your ears. Some of the obnoxious lyrics come through, and Fronzak can be awfully obnoxious on this record, here and there, but it’s not that bad. I can ignore it with relative ease, especially nowadays, because I don’t care about lyrics as much as I used to. If the music itself is fine, I can look past bad lyrics (even though there is a line that I’ll cross, and Attila tests that line every once in awhile). The sound on this album is totally fine, despite being generic, and there are some flashes of technical prowess throughout the album. That always kind of bothers me, because Attila can be a lot better than they are, but they choose not to be. They’ll never be anything truly great, thanks to Fronzak’s vocals and lyrics, but their instrumentation could improve. They clearly have some talent, and that’s why they’re not the worst thing ever, but they just choose to do nothing with it, instead being a generic and obnoxious metalcore band in the process. Thankfully, though, Outlawed isn’t that bad of an album, but it’s still awfully generic metalcore that most “haters” wouldn’t be impressed by.
