For folks in the cycling world who have yet to experience a #RepresentationMatters presentation with @ayesuppose, check out this video of her keynote speech at @QualityBike #frostbike. Ayesha spoke about what she campaigns for best: representation matters and how the industry can do better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ayesha’s campaign on representation matters presented to the bike industry has the has power to influence how brands can make their workforce, campaigns, and events more inclusive. That this work of DEI in the outdoors requires more than just having media with one token BIPOC (don't fake diversity because BIPOC can see right through that and don't like it.) She also alludes that we have to get uncomfortable and really do the hard work to truly understand systemic racism and how white dominant spaces uphold it. And that this work also includes going out into communities and being aware of how we build partnerships with communities of color. Importantly, remember that trust, accountability, and having fun with bikes can truly help us create the kind of bike community we want. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are more points she covers and it's well worth the listen. I think it's important to get this video out and heard to the industry. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We'd like to echo a comment from Sean Schlosser... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "...this means getting uncomfortable and actually putting in the work to go out and do this yourself. Do not expect BIPOC to just waltz in and be your friend....you have to build trust, friendship, etc. it's not a one way street.
