“If stubborness were all that was needed to be a good queen, I'd rule the world.” ― Sara Raasch, Ice Like Fire . . . . . . I finished Down Among The Sticks And Bones, by Seanan McGuire. This book tells the story of Jack and Jill before they went back to "our" world. Even tho we know what happened after this story it was still an enjoyable read. It has a gothic setting that I liked very much, even more because it's finally autumn! (And I'm very happy about it) You are first introduced to the life of these twins as they grow. One of the things that I hated most was their parents. They were despicable!! It's not fair to put your children into this kind of stereotypes and to not let them be who they really are. We have Jack, the girly twin and Jill, the tomboy. When they go through the door and come to the Moore (don't remember how it's spelled!) they are found by the Master (a vampire). There's a pact between the "mad scientist" and the vampire: when a foundling is found, one goes to the scientist and then the next one goes to the vampire. Jack chooses to go with the scientist and we follow her as she learn things she was never allowed to and she falls in love with the daughter of the Inn keeper of the town. Meanwhile Jill is becoming more and more cruel, with dresses and all. As the story keeps on Jill wants to be beside the vampire and become one, but she is too eager and trouble begins! I liked this book but I found it a bit lacking, compared with the first installment. It's a perfect read for fall and Halloween. The atmosphere is phenomenally gothic.
