Hi! I was just wondering, how do you know that Elsa from Frozen is a lesbian? I'm not saying she isn't, I'm just wondering.
it was most likely unintentional, but her story greatly mirrors homophobia, and being closeted (especially with parents who know but donāt want anyone else to. the whole teaching Elsa to āconceal donāt feelā reminded me a lot of Portia DeRossiās story with how her mother said she ādidnāt careā but didnāt want her telling anyone else) and being persecuted for being who she is by society. plus coming to terms with loving and accepting herself for who she is. (plus at no point does she show attraction to or interest in men. the only person she cares about is her sister, another women, who sheās scared to show any affection to because sheās afraid sheās going to hurt her, because what makes her different makes her bad)
this is why sheās tagged as coded, because though sheās not coded in the same way Pearl is, her story mirrors homophobia (just like the Beastās story is meant to mirror having AIDS) which counts as coded to me
and though this could be said for various things, like I know a lot of people view it as being reminicent of mental illness (or at least showing accurate representations of mental illness in her reactions to whatās happened to her), apparently homophobic parents found the āI love youā from Anna (her sisterā¦) as being too intense to be sisterly and saw it as being gay, too gay for their kids, and there were lots of stories from other movie-goers of crying children being dragged from the theater by a furious parent who went on to complain about Disneyās gay agenda on facebook (that were screenshotāed and passed around the rest of the internet for us to laugh at.
so if itās enough to piss off the str8s, itās enough for us =P
