Honeyed ambrosia pls pls pls ☺️ and thank you 💛
AAA sorry this took forever Tangie! For the WIP ask game
But here's more about Honeyed Ambrosia, my omegaverse Xerxes never fell au! I answered one ask on it before for Cafe so I wanted to try and write a little more for chapter 2!
To add some extra context this idea was inspired by two things:
1) I hadn't really seen many chase fics for omegaverse RoyEd so I wanted to contribute hehe (Although my good friend Jupes has now published one in her natures series!!!)
2) I really really wanted to play with how alpha/omega dynamics would be transformed based on cultural context just like real life gender roles are. I am a lover of omegaverse instincts being a thing but I feel the genre takes a lot of our own cultural biases for granted on how it's often written. And since I am a nerd about gender as a social construct and how it is embedded in everyday life I really wanted to play with it in an omegaverse au! So for that reason, Xerxes as it will be revealed is what could be considered a more Matriarchal society with it's own practices related to how omegas are treated during heats and also how "courting" and mating rituals work. By contrast, Amestris is patriarchal in kind of the classic Western European parallel. Since Roy is from Amestris and Ed is from Xerxes a lot of miscommunication happens because they are interpreting the world so differently and are too stubborn to just talk openly with one another. It's also really hard to shake some biases from one's own culture so Roy has often been less receptive about the main mating ritual because it just feels so wrong to him.
Anywho, here's a little snippet of Roy trying to show his interest in courting Ed:
Roy was loathe to admit that he was… categorically nervous. Him and Prince Edward were walking together through the Palace gardens, enjoying the balmy spring air. He watched Prince Edward walk ahead of him, his tan skin and blond hair even more gilded by the golden light of the sun as it started to kiss the horizon. Fiddling his the box tucked in his caftan, Roy knew he was stalling. Eighteen was still so young, but Roy wanted to make his intentions clear and what better time than just before Prince Edward's birthday celebration.
