I had the urge to redraw that one prompt I did for Linktober in... 23, maybe? Anyways I just got the idea on how to make it much more dramatic and I had to take it :3c

OH SHIT BABES magma with friend @theforgxttenshade
When life gives you lemons...
The Fsa/Fs version:
Green: Take them and make lemonade!!
Red: Make lemon cake!
Blue: Shoot the juice into the eyes of your enemies to blind them.
(Or alt;
Blue: You have f#cking lemons, man! What the hell is wrong with all of you?! )
Vio: Eat them. *Starts eating the lemons whole, like an apple*
Erune: Don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back!
Ganon: Throw them like rocks!
Zelda: make lemon tea!
Shadow: Make grape juice, then sit back and watch as the world wonders how you did it
Vaati: use those lemons to make sacrifices as the world watches in fear.
Tingle: Sell those lemons!
I might be a little insane but legitimately HOW is FSA Ganondorf, a Ganon who we never see til the end, in a game made with recycled assets that cause it to have the clunkiest style in the series, better written than TOTK Ganondorf?
Because both of them
Haunt the narrative
Are explicitly despised by the Gerudo (if you take the AOI retcon at face value)
Are written to be evil for evil's sake
Are from games that, again, use a BUNCH of recycled assets (not in and of itself a bad thing, Majoras Mask did that.)
And yet, despite us only ever seeing his beast form at the very end of the game, despite all of his deeds being shown offscreen, despite Vaati working alongside him, despite Shadow Link being the only consistent recurring threat, FSA Ganon is more consistently written and FAR more convincing than the mess that TOTK Gan was.
No nostagia in this, either - I only played FSA over the last couple months. Some of the major differences I can recount are as follows:
Ganondorf, in FSA, is relatively unknown outside of the Gerudo region. Hes not an established threat to hyrule at the start, and only a few characters knew about him. I belive only one of the four knights he killed knew who he was, and none of the maidens did. Contrast that to TOTK Ganondorf, who had a reputation as a "Hero" in the past, came after Calamity Ganon in the future, and yet none of this is called into question by any of the protagonists.
Without linking FSA Ganondorf to the Zelda timeline, something created well after the game, and thus not in mind when the game was written, this Ganondorf's motivations can be simple and not contradictive. TOTK cant seem to decide if its Gan is driven by ambition, spite, or greed.
What we know about FSA Ganondorf is that he's a criminal among the Gerudo. It's never stated what he did — the dialogue with other Gerudo suggests he had a poor reputation even before venturing to the Desert Temple and Pyramid — but he supposedly dodged punishment for it. This is STILL less vague than TOTK!
FSA spends a significant portion of the game attributing certain things to Vaati. He's the one creating seals that sap the land, his magic surrounds the royal jewels and imprison the spirits of the guards, he's the one blamed for the toxic swamps and praised by dark mages across the land... but he wasnt the one who kidnapped the maidens. He wasn't the one who killed the royal guards. He didn't steal the dark mirror, or summon the Shadow Link, and when we finally get to his palace, it's completely overtaken by statues of Ganon. At this point Vaati has had an entire game where he was the main antagonist, and another on the way (MC released the same year). Then, he's defeated with hardly a fanfare, and its revealed this great threat was hanging on by a thread well before we EVER got to him.
Less about Ganon, more about Zelda, but we actually see her go face-to-face(i guess more like evil cloud?) with Ganon just before we fight him. She's absolutely trounced. This is our introduction to the final fight.
TOTK's final battle is iconic- I wont deny it's one of the funnest and most challenging Ganondorf fights I've played, but he wasn't doing much beforehand. You break into his fortress on your terms. FSA Ganondorf ambushes you as you're trying to escape a collapsing tower... just as you're reaching the exit. He attacks you on HIS terms. You've defeated Vaati, you've stolen back the Dark mirror, but you haven't defeated *him.* Nothing forced him into that fight, he could have just as easily waited to strike again. He just sees an opportunity to kill you, and takes it.
Biggest fan of characters scorned by the writers. You're not gonna give them characterization? Mine now. Im going to make them worse.
25! Ganon (Predictable voice) And Shadow
