Nick Goode doesn’t go away.

It’s been four years since she saw him last. Four. And yet, somehow, he looks as accomplished and polished as she always assumed he would be. Another asshole CEO or schmuck lawyer.

She does not – does not – think about what happened the last time she saw him. No, those memories are best left to the dust.

"Sam wants to have dinner with her mom tonight,” Deena grumbles, letting her head fall back against the couch cushions. “I told Sam we had to go out to a restaurant so that I didn’t have to worry about her trying to poison me.”

Josh looks somewhat skeptical, but also overwhelming sympathetic. “She still hasn’t gotten used to you?”

“Do you mean used to the idea of me dating her daughter? Of us living in sin?” Deena raises an eyebrow. “The other day she told Sam she couldn’t wait until she got this out of her system so she could meet a nice boy and have lots of grandkids.”

Josh winces, shaking his head.
