twenty years ago today my best friend was born. and twenty three minutes after that so was i.

i wish i could put into words everything my sister was and is, but i’ve never been good with the direct approach. for nineteen years i had one person by my side, and on my side, even when i was wrong, and now she’s not there. but fay’s a part of who i am. she always has been. she always will be. i just hope i can make her proud.

i wrote a song about my sister. it’s called seasons and it’s out now.

sometimes in life, if you’re lucky, and you learn to be quiet, you find someone electric. someone with a magnetic pull so strong you find yourself on the edge of your seat hoping for just a bit of their spark.

despite the popular opinion, our spark never ignited a flame, but your magnetic pull still kept me in. eventually we looked back at our late night whispers and constantly linked pinkies and knew better than to call it love. it was something more. some great cosmic friendship sent to us by all out lucky stars.

your plaid skirt i stole is still on my bedroom floor back home and my favorite coat is still hanging in your closet. you’re inked into my skin in a visible way but i carried you with me even before that and i always will. you’re my courage on the bad days and in the strangest twist of all you’ve given me so much hope for the days ahead.

happy 20th, fay orion. i’d give you all the stars if i could.
