so this isn’t exactly haneul’s dream plan. in his head, he’d have just asked seunggi to come with him outright. but in his head, he’s much more brave and honest with what he wants and needs— he can even ask others for help when he needs it. this way— this presentation and pumped-up playlist— was the only one that made sense to him. it was the only way he felt brave enough to even say he had an issue and wanted help solving it. he sees those eyes going soft though, and he almost wants to ask if it’s because seunggi pities him somehow. probably. that’s okay though. he’s used to that.
haneul shrugs, trying to seem very nonchalant while hope wears all over his face. “would you say yes if i asked?” the tablet stays where it is, but he decides it’s time enough for his head to pop out above it. he’s still nervous, of course, but the sweetness seunggi shows has him scrolling through the playlist for that one song he’s always heard on the sad animal commercials when his family travels overseas. “my family… is a lot. and i don’t want you to just say yes ‘cause you feel bad for me or something.” he’d still absolutely accept the yes though! he motions to the tablet screen. “you’re second option. first was… you know.”
“of course i’d say yes,” seunggi says without a second thought — frankly, with how often he finds himself feeding haneul like he’s his own child, he’s surprised haneul would think any differently. he can’t deny that the sudden aspca music has him regretting the decision, but in the same breath, he appreciates the dedication haneul’s put into ‘swaying’ seunggi.
though, his friend’s next choice of words has his eyes narrowing slightly. “if you don’t want me to feel bad for you,” he leans back in his chair, much like an academic suddenly discovering something monumental, “why are you playing this song, hannie? hm?” his brows lift, teasing, as he tosses the wrapper of the muffin he’d outright inhaled earlier. “besides, it wouldn’t be a pity yes. you’re in a bind, and i want to help you. s’what friends are for, no?”
plus, seunggi knows his way around a wedding after attending about a dozen by the time he was sixteen. so. haneul definitely could’ve done worse.
“do i know?” he poses with a quirked brow, eyes narrowing further like trying to mentally shake haneul’s brain like it’s a piggy bank full of secrets. “or are you hiding something from me?” seunggi’s arms fold, a little expectant. “let’s hear it — and can you please turn this song off? all i can see are puppies with the biggest eyes i’ve ever seen.”
