emma looked down at her phone with shaky hands, tears dripping onto the screen && katelyn’s pale cheek. she cradled her close, arms wrapped tightly around her waist, protecting her from every turn or little bumb in the road, playing with her hair or smoothing down her eyebrows, offering comfort even though it’s too late. who knows, maybe she can feel it, all emma knows was that it was the one thing she could do to help. she sniffled, unable to clear her blurred vision because she wouldn’t let go of katelyn long enough to wipe away her tears. she kept mumbling to herself “just a few more minutes, it’ll all be okay,” rocking herself && katelyn back && forth. “i should’ve been with her kwiq. i could’ve taken care of her. no job is more important that her...” her voice cracked, a whimper bubbling in her throat as the fear finally set in. the thought of losing her lifeline was starting to dwindle the strength she’d be forcing to power through this.
