Naomi unlocked the door to her apartment and killed her alarm. The bells in the distant came quicker as Cinnamon ran towards the door. The girls had been out all day between ice skating, the holiday market and lunch — a sleepover seemed fitting for herself and her “little sister” Nova. “Um, sorry for the mess.” She turned on her kitchen light. In just a few days, she had turned her place into spotless to chaos with donation boxes. “Big goals in the new year so acting accordingly early. Pleassse, you know the drill lady. My home is your home. Albert’s too.” She took her coat along with her own to hang in the linen closet. “Are you hungry? Happy to do a breakfast for dinner vibe , maybe a hash brown casserole, we can order out still.” She grabbed Cinnamon’s empty water bowl and filled it along with finding a spare water bowl for Albert.

Jayce observed the woman and noticed the scrape on her arm. He dipped his hand into the bowl of tepid water, soaking the cloth before carrying it to her and gently pressing it against the injury. "What happened here?" he inquired, aiming to distract her from the sight of blood.

Oberon had walked back to his place with the drawing the girl on the subway had given him tucked carefully against his chest. He was hardly a sentimental kind of person but something about the way she had talked to him had done something to ease his unusal levels of discomfort he was feeling in that moment. He walked to his apartment and unlocked the door, pausing to kick his shoes off and set the drawing and his keys on the table by the door. His plans for that evening were going to change, even if it was only slightly. He picked up his phone and dialed Nova, bringing the phone to his ear. "Hey...." he said softly when she answered. "I wanted to know if you wanted to come over. We could order food and watch a halloween movie or something," He spoke softly. She made him want to be softer.
