“Amy Taylor?” Cass is seventeen years old and hasn’t started dating Kiera yet. Amy is just a name and a face to him, a person but not a real one to him. Being able to pick her out of a line up doesn’t mean he knows anything about who she really is. “She’s cool. Her little sister Aubrey is best friends with mine, Greer. I know more about her boyfriend than her, really. She thinks the world of that guy. Smart, though. Extremely hot. But don’t tell Brooks that. That’s about all I got. Can’t help you more than that.”

“Oh, you mean Amelia.” Cass is thirty one years old and the mention of the eldest Taylor makes the corner of his mouth turn up with a secret smile. It’s a week or so after he kissed her in the headlights of her car in the cab of his, warm lips and hot breaths. “She’s...really, really great. Witty as all hell, tough, but because she’s small its in a cute way.” He doesn’t know exactly whats going down between them, but he’s here for it. Whatever it is. And he certainly wants to kiss her again. “She’s too hard on herself about a lot of things that she can’t change, but that in itself shows how big her heart is. You couldn’t meet much better, people wise.”

“What can I say?  She’s my girlfriend, I think the world of her. I love her.” Cass is thirty two years old and he’s beaming, not even trying to hold it back. Even with a gaping hole in one of his buildings, it doesn’t detract from the happiness that he’s still got running through him after an incredible New Years. He sees his world when he looks at her, and its something he ever wants to stop seeing. “She’s kind. Caring. She holds so much sadness and pain still in her heart, but she deserves a well of the opposite, at all times. She’s sexy, smart, in possession of the best ass and most incredibly dimple framed smile I’ve ever seen or ever will. Stronger than I am in every way. I’m the luckiest man in the world for being the one that she let in and puts up with. I frustrate her, a lot, and we’re still learning how to adjust to the bumps and bruises that life throws at you, but there’s not one I’d rather have at my side. Loving her is the greatest privilege I’ve been given in this life, and she’s more than I’ll ever deserve. I’ve gotten pretty attached to having her in my life, and couldn’t imagine a future without her, ever.” The only thing that he doesn’t say is that he’s decided. If she’ll have him, if she’ll consider it, she’s it for him. He doesn’t want anyone else.

He’s helping her at the marina, dragging in a boat. Amy motions for him to follow her through the maze of boats and her hand hangs in the air for a second behind her, something inside Cass telling him to reach forward. He chickens out, a blush staining his cheeks, and hastens to catch up with her.

He was taking her out to dinner, Amy wearing something that makes Cass choke on his own spit and made his mouth dry at the same time. They’re waiting to get seated a table, and he panics about if he should hold her hand or not. Instead, he offers her his arm, and suppresses a sigh of relief when she takes it.

He misses the opportunity. They’re hanging out and his dad’s most recent yelling session hangs over his head, a dark cloud over his temperament. Cass settles for an arm stretched at the back of the couch and focuses on her warmth and curves next to him, her smile lifting his mood.

He takes her to meet Jazz, his favorite horse that he’s raised from birth, and in his excitement he takes the initiative to place a hesitant, warm hand at her back.  She doesn’t push him away and his heart swells, and spends the next thirty minutes with two of the most beautiful girls he’d ever met.

He punched a guy in the face. He hadn’t planned to (Cass never did), but he’d said some shit about Greer and it couldn’t go unpunished. There’s wrappings on his knuckles and medical tape, and when their hands brush he winces instead of smiles. Amy holds the injury in both of her hands, and it makes everything feel better.

He’s with her, and his hand feels empty. Slowly, he slides his fingers down Amy’s arm until he reaches her smaller hand and laces his fingers between hers, a shy but warm smile on his face. Keeping his eyes locked on hers, he lifted their linked hands and pressed a warm kiss to her thumb, slight whiskers sure to tickle. Cass is happy.
