on the way to raleigh with @acciocarys, january 26
When her mom asked her to drive up to Raleigh earlier that week, in her mind Amy was going to make a roadtrip of it with her friends, Carys, Iris, Bex, Claire, whoever wanted to join her. Winter might not have been an ideal time for that, but in good company even the cold bothered less, and there were plenty of places they could go to, plenty of things to do while they were there that they wouldn’t even have time to consider the weather. Unfortunately, when the moment came, in the aftermath of the fight with Cass, Amy found the will and excitement had all but vaporized. Her mind was tormented, her dreams haunted once more, and she was in no mood for a social occasion.
Still, given that she had already made plans for the day with Carys, and that she needed someone beside her to keep her awake if the exhaustion caught up with her, the two friends found themselves in Amy’s car, halfway to the state’s capital. The radio played in the background, and occasionally the two of them would join in, belting out the notes, for a fleeting second evicting the memories of the fight from Amy’s thoughts, but they’d come crawling back soon enough. Her best friend knew her well enough to read the mood the moment they hugged that morning, and Amy assumed she was letting her open up when she was ready. A stark contrast to how Cass seemed to be pushing her and pulling her, trying to get her on his page. Was she worth that effort?
“We had another fight,” Amy admitted with a sigh and a quick glance towards her friend. The grip on the wheel tightened, fingers curling as her knuckles paled. “It was bad, Care. Really bad. I don’t know where we’re at and where we’re going from here.”
