Word traveled fast about David’s competence, and coupled with his low rates, he got called in for quite a few jobs in the past week alone. Perhaps the efforts he’s put in at Jimmy’s to clean up after the fire had also warranted some good karma and he was actually making more money than he’s ever been used to─ mostly because he rarely got paid. It was late on a Friday morning that he got called into the Bake My Day bakery to fix up a cupboard door that had fallen off its hinges, a few of the shelves inside it standing at an angle, too. What sounded like a half-hour fix turned out to be more serious than that, as the water pipe in the wall behind the cupboard seemed to be leaking, ruining the wood and causing damage. The wooden piece of furniture was pushed far away from the wall, and David had broken into it with his tools to fix the underlying cause first before tackling what he was called in for in the first place.
“The pipe’s old, so that’s probably the only reason why this happened,” he explained to the raven-haired woman who was working that day and supervised him when she wasn’t dealing with the customers. “I’ll fix what I can now, it should hold you over for a while, but if this happens again you should probably get a real plumber here, and not a self-taught one.” Flashing a grin her way, he tightened the screws and fixed it all in place. “Is this the first time something like this has happened or do you have to fix things up all the time?”
