Sounds of battle die all around Y/N, not even the sound of growing cheers can pierce the small bubble she put herself in. The day was one, she tells herself, it was all worth it in the end.
Her cold hands release the old elven blade to clutch her gaping wound. Gasping for the cold dry air, a cough wracks through her body, knocking her to her knees. With a pitiful cry, she feels warm hands helping her gently to the icy ground below her.
Squeezing her eyes shut, Y/N let out a sharp hiss at being moved, her hands now tightly pressed against her deep wound. "Y/N," a gruff and familiar voice calls out, she turns her head to face the voice but doesn't open her eyes. "You idiot! I had him."
Her eyes shot open to find Thorin hovering over her, his long hair matted with sweat and blood in some places, a few scratches adorn his hard-set face. Every part of her is screaming for her to comfort the poor dwarf, but her anger is starting to fill her veins.
"You would be dead along with me," Y/N manages, trying desperately for her voice not to crack, not wanting to show anything but anger. "I–I can't have that, I can't have the new King's blood on my hands."
Blinking in confusion, Y/N glances up at the dwarf who is slowly backing away from her. "No?" She gasps, trying to sit up but falls back onto the ice with a groan. Thorin rushes back to her side and helps her sit at an angle.
"Gandalf had told me...something before we had left Rivendell," Thorin whispers, his fingers gently brushing away strands of hair from her eyes, his other hand grasping one of her cold hands, rubbing small circles with his thumb.
"You know then," Y/N groans, swallowing hard as she feels the burn of forming tears.
"Why? Why would you do this? And don't lie to me Y/N, not now, not ever."
"I–" she tries to start, taking in a shaky breath, she shifts in his warm hold before continuing. "I understand how selfish it is, a-and you can hate me for this," she cries, fresh tears begin to slowly roll down her cheeks. "But I, it had to be me. I have nothing waiting for me after this, no family, no home...but you, you have everything waiting for you, I couldn't just stand by and watch your people's King die....I–I couldn't stand by and watch you die with knowing I could do something."
"Oh, Amralime," Thorin murmurs, his warm hands wiping away Y/N's weak tears. "W-we must get you to a healer, there is still time."
Y/N weakly shakes her head, her grip on her wound slowly laxing. "No Thorin," she coughs. "There is no time, just, just please say you'll remember me and take care of yourself?"
A small sigh escapes the dwarf as he leans in to kiss her forehead. "As you wish."
