thanks to brainy’s message to the future. the legion was able to send a large populace of earth-38 to earth-1 just as their counterparts had done in the present. it wasn’t enough, they still LOST people. garth sits on one of the trundle beds in the refugee centre on the other earth looking at an old picture of him, ayla, and mekt. mekt hadn’t made it, it wasn’t like evacuating prisons was a priority. 

garth traces the form of his big brother in the picture. there was a time when he would worship the ground mekt walked on. but just a year ago he’d been the one that put mekt in prison.  when he looks, imra is there watching him from afar. he sighs and holds out his hand for her. their romance is a secret for now. for mon-el’s sake. he’s lost one brother and doesn’t think he’s strong enough to lose another. he shows imra the picture. “ is it bad that even with all of the terror he’s caused, I still...I still mourn him? “

GARTH STOOD IN FRONT OF THE TALL GLASS WINDOWS in the aft portion of the legion cruiser looking down upon earth. it was so CHAOTIC compared to his home planet of winath. at least what winath used to be before Brainiac took over. he heard footsteps behind him and turned with a smile to see Imra. she always seemed to inspire warmth out of him even at the coldest of times. “ hey, mon-el’s on patrol and winn’s in the lab working on some new weapon...so it’s just us holding down command tonight.”

BEING A MEMBER OF LEGION HAD CHANGED GARTH IN A LOT OF FUNDAMENTAL WAYS. he was no longer an blindly optimistic young man. realism was coiled into spine and wracked in his heart. losing his own brother mekt to the dark side had drove that point in. “ if you think that’s best, “ garth said softly, although his heart was wrenching already with the idea of seeing her go. a tepid smile appeared on his lips. “ I believe in you imra, you’re more powerful than you know. “ he soothed, “ why don’t you try again? this time just focus on something that gives you warmth and makes you feel happy, “

when garth had first joined the legion, he was indubitably the MOST immature. he was essentially a farm boy from a far off corner of the galaxy that had far TOO much bravado. loss, sacrifice, and heroism had crafted him into a man but there were some JUVENILE behaviours he still liked indulging in such as sneakily making out with his new girlfriend in the maintenance room. 

imra’s body presses against the wall of the cramped maintenance closet whilst garth looms over her. he may have the advantage of height but imra’s still a lot more powerful than he is. why she chose him he’ll never know but he considers himself LUCKY. his fingers part through her golden tresses as he kisses her deeply. freely. they’re still keeping their relationship a secret because they don’t want to disrupt operations. but damn it’s hard not to show his affection for this amazing woman every second of every day. 

he hoists her up easily only to draw away and look into her eyes. he’s slightly breathless from all the kissing but that doesn’t stop the rest of the words that escape his lips. “ you’re amazing.” he murmurs, before his lips press against her’s once again,
