"i call this one!" it's the first they've entered, but milo is dropping their bags, draping themselves over them on the splintery floor dramatically. they'd never been camping; somehow milo never imagined anything past sitting in tents, eating s'mores, and telling ghost stories. they didn't think it would be so tiring. head hanging off of their backpack, kingston looks upside down from this angle, as does the work bench and rusty tools they're just noticing in the cabin "wanna be roomies? we can make a birdhouse together." and get tetanus together. how romantic.

𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 — akeem kingston 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 — front lawn

"yo, your name's akeem?" it's their first words as they approach, tripping over the leg of a lawn chair, pupils blown wide. milo hands over a blunt without request, painted nails sliding over kingston's palm in a half-assed dap up, far more focused on the discovery they had just made. it had been over a year of this, hearing the guys talk about some mysterious asshole named akeem that he'd never met before, and it took until he was fucked up on a dubious cocktail of substances to finally balls up and ask "i thought it was kingston???"

𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 — akeem kingston 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 — bonfire

they'd been rambling for minutes now about some dumb shit, describing every shape they saw in the bonfire, describing how every one of them burned to ashes seconds later. milo wasn't sure if kingston was listening, he hadn't taken his eyes off of the glowing heat in front of them the entire time. when a face burned away in the flames, before they could reach out and save it, the words came out without him registering his mouth moving "we buried him, kingston." they hadn't, really, but it was all the same to him right now. every one of them had a part in covering it up, concealing what was left of luke sinclair— what could've saved him. the worst part was, milo couldn't be disgusted with any of them, even with the drug-fueled terror setting in, causing his entire form to shake. hadn't he done worse than hiding a couple of items? he lights a cigarette, almost burning his hand in the process. it's all he can do to not full on confess everything right then and there "...think we could find where cam buried his shit, if we tried?"

"can fevers make you hallucinate?" they have stopped in their tracks, looking through the woods for the source of that far off sound once more. it wasn't ineffectual, putting he and kingston on the same assignment, but things might have gone faster if at least one more of them wasn't ailing. the only thing that could have made this more comical was if reeve had joined them in this, but of course he got to sit back and work on the screenplay while they had to head out after freezing their asses off "cuz i swear to fucking god, i hear it again." they'd brought this up a couple of times already as they collected sticks off the ground, this crunch of leaves and crack of wood, like someone further in the forest was taking an axe to a tree. never a crash, though. they slow their pace, no longer eager to tread on, and fall into step with kingston. did strength in numbers mean anything if they were both fighting sickness?
