Angstpril 2021 Day 27: I Cant Do This Without You

Day 27: “I can’t do this without you.”

The lightning brought him to his knees. It danced over his skin, leaving fire in it’s wake. Well, not actual fire, but he felt as if his veins were being burned. But there was hope. This moment where Palpatine, Sidius, was focused on him, gave Master Windu time to get up off the floor. But Sidious was advancing on him now. “Anakin, I promised you safety for your family.” Anakin cried out as the blue fire scorched his body. He’d been electrocuted before, but this just felt… different. Sidious was aiming to kill.

Windu was approaching, ready to strike, but his surprise approach was sensed. Suddenly Anakin went flying forward. The push was so strong he slammed right into the strong pillar in the middle of the room, and crashed to the floor with a groan. That had hurt. But Master Windu was engaging Sidious and Anakin couldn’t let him do it alone. He pushed himself up off the floor and moved behind Sidious. The Sith didn’t sense him, or was at least distracted enough not to be bothered by him. Anakin lifted his hilt and held it outward just behind Sidious, and ignited it.

Day 17: Out of Time

Anakin slumped forward, the durasteel restraints digging painfully into his left wrist and ankles, and grating loudly against his prosthetic. His nerves had to be fried by now and he was surely losing brain cells. “How did you get onboard this station?” The guard sneered.

“I… I don’t know,” he slurred, hardly able to speak above a whisper. He hardly had time to catch his breath before the familiar ding of the activation button sounded and lightning danced over his skin. He’d stopped being able to hold back his screams hours earlier.

Day 16: Silence

Anakin was standing before his desk, carefully welding something when Obi-Wan entered his quarters. Obi-Wan could sense his frustration, but he didn’t need to feel his emotions to know Anakin was upset. He could see it in the tense posture of his back and shoulders, his clenched jaw, and the frown puckering his brow and tugging at his mouth. “I’ve been looking for you,” he said, by way of greeting. There was a brief pause before Anakin spoke.

“Something wrong?” his words were clipped.

“You tell me.”

Day 29: Going Dark

It was a standard mission they were on: Defend Cato Neimoidia from Separatist attack. They had led missions like this countless times. “Ahsoka,” punch a hole for the gunships to get through.

“I know the drill, Master.” The pair led the men through the atmosphere, firing at Separatist ships. They were descending to the clouds now. One of the Separatist's ships launched something and it appeared on Ahsoka’s console display. “Look out,” she called, “incoming missiles!” She swerved to avoid the missile. Anakin’s voice came over her comm.

“No problem.” The missile opened to reveal a hoard of droids. They clung to his ship. Uh oh… “Uh, slight problem,” he admitted. The buzz droids scampered across his ship and began taking it apart. “Ahsoka, I’ve got buzz droids. How badly did you get hit?”

“I’m all clear,” she replied, sounding confused. What?

Day 28: Voices in Your Head

“Let’s take a moment,” Obi-Wan murmured. His Padawan glared up at him, though Obi-Wan knew the glare was more of a show of determination than any ill feelings towards him.

“No, I can keep going.” Obi-Wan felt a small smile tug at his mouth.

“Padawan, it is alright to rest. Here,” Obi-Wan passed him a bottle of water and took one for himself. He sat down on the floor of the training room and after a long moment, Anakin sighed and sank ungracefully to the ground. He uncapped the bottle and begun drinking. Obi-Wan smiled. “What has you so determined to keep going? You have time to learn the forms, Anakin. You have time to learn all you need to know.” Anakin fidgeted a little, tugging on the sleeve of his tunic. It was a long while before he spoke.

Day 23: Bedside Vigil

“There it is,” Ahsoka exclaimed, pointing. “Come on.” The shield generator was in view. Together she and Master Skywalker ran towards it. When they reached the edge, Master Skywalker paused.

“Stay close,” he said. “We gotta be careful.” But the generator was right there. They were so close. Too close to pause, when General Kenobi and the troops needed them.

“C’moon!” she called, ducking under the sharp wiring.

“Wait—!” She was already running, but she turned back to look at him. He was standing with his hand reaching towards her.

“Why? We’re almost there. It’s right—” She tripped. She hadn’t seen the wire.

Day 1: “You have to let me go.”

The decision to leave is one she grieves. The Temple is her home. The people within these walls are her family. For a moment, after she is cleared of the charges, she thinks she might be able to stay. She could. She doesn’t have to go. She doesn’t want to go.

Angstpril 2021 Day 22: I Had No Choice

Day 22: “I had no choice!”

The night sky was full of stars here. It was beautiful, easily one of the most beautiful systems in the galaxy. So much better than the ocean planet of Kamino, and truly better than Coruscant. Rex was content to stand here alone, admiring the beauty of the trees, and the starlit sky that spread over the moon like a blanket. He was alone for a while, but then he saw Luke Skywalker edge out of the nearest hut and stand on the bridge, staring forlornly into the night. Rex had spoken to the boy a few times since he joined the Rebellion, and of course, once he had, in his bright-eyed innocence, declared himself to be Luke Skywalker, Rex’s heart had stuttered, then picked up in double time. General Skywalker had had a child, then. With Senator Amidala, of course. Rex had been fully aware of their not-so-secret affair, and he was sure he wasn’t the only one.

For a moment, he considered announcing his presence to Luke, but Princess Leia Organa had noticed Luke’s absence and came out of the hut in search of him. She approached him, and though Luke was not facing her, Rex had a feeling he knew she was there. But then she did speak, her voice soft. “Luke, what’s wrong?” Luke turned to her and Rex ducked further into the shadow of the hut nearest him. He was able to see them, but he didn’t want to be seen. He figured Luke could sense him though.
